Feds hyperlink Bay Space ‘couriers’ to multimillion greenback Baltimore drug ring
SAN FRANCISCO — Two Bay Area men have been charged with being couriers in an alleged multimillion dollar fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana trafficking ring based in Baltimore, according to recently unsealed court records.
Nicholas Mamea and Anthony Milliken, both of San Jose, were charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine, along with the ring’s alleged leader, Baltimore resident Steven Norwood, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court. Federal authorities in Maryland have been investigating Norwood since July 2019, installing a hidden camera outside one of his suspected stash houses and tracking cross-country flights by both Mamea and Milliken, the complaint alleges.
In a July 13, 2020 raid of the suspected stash house, an apartment unit in Owings Mills, Maryland, authorities reportedly found two pounds of fentanyl, 30 pounds of cocaine, $360,000 in cash, a pistol, and “several” pounds of marijuana, the complaint says. Both Mamea and Norwood were arrested at the apartment.
The next day, agents raided a storage locker tied to Norwood and found roughly $1.75 million in cash, according to the complaint.
Milliken, arrested earlier this month in the Bay Area, is still in federal custody in California, awaiting extradition to Maryland where the charges are filed. At his first court appearance last week, he was remanded to custody by a federal magistrate.
