IDHAZ strikes by means of a abandoned San Francisco in ‘if i’m afraid’

The emerging artist from the Bay Area combines hip-hop, footwork, Latin and contemporary dance in the surreal visual accompaniment of the opening track of his debut album, psychic Behaviors.
The Rising Bay Area artist IDHAZ embarks on a surreal nightly odyssey through the deserted San Francisco with director Brandon Tauszik. In contrast to the freaky sounds of ‘If i am fear’, the opening track of the artist’s debut album, Psychic Behaviors, the video shows an original choreography by IDHAZ, which, along with dancers Yaya and Justice, is wearing fool face paint. “In this music video, I wanted each dancer’s unique style to really come into its own,” explains IDHAZ. “I wanted there to be moments of harmony, but more moments of raw movement.” Based on the experience of a daydream, director Tauszik captures the video’s idea of how the dancers move through a correspondingly dream-like environment, going through a series of border areas before they finally reach their destination in the waking world.
“I grew up with salsa, merengue and cumbia with my family,” explains IDHAZ. “My mother was the first person to show me how to move my hips at a quinceanera, I was so embarrassed! The other dancers in this video, Yaya and Justice, come from very different dance backgrounds. Yaya’s style is so smooth, it’s like an ever-changing, unpredictable cloud. I met him for the first time at the BART train station and the first time I saw him dancing, just moments later on the train. He blows me over and over again with his innovative strength and passion. I met Justice by seeing him dance in the heart of San Francisco. He’s a b-boy through and through, and he gets along in his own way – that’s what I love about him. His style is inconsiderate and the jaw drops. To see him dance is like seeing a flower bloom. “
“My dance style is a combination of latin dance, hip hop, footwork and contemporary dance,” he continues. “I love intensity in dance. For me, dancing means being alive and being alive means participating in the harmony of the cosmos. My body is the instrument. Beyond and inside – the harmony. You don’t deserve to be a dancer, a poet or a singer, we just are by moving or writing or singing. When we connect with our body, we also connect with a planetary consciousness. When I dance, I connect with the loom of the cosmos and transcend the forward movement of time. “
‘when I’m afraid’ comes from psychological behaviors that now appear on the left hand path. You can find more information about Brandon Tauszik and his work on his website. You can find IDHAZ on Instagram.
