San Francisco industrial design team Mike&Maaike is teaming up with a heating and cooling technology startup to revolutionize HVAC systems with a product called “Quilt.”

Quilt is a unique HVAC system that focuses on functionality and simplicity, with a refreshing design that promises to change the conventional perception of HVAC systems around the world.

By striking a balance between technology, efficiency and aesthetics, the partnership aims to redefine the norms within the industry.

One of Quilt's key features is its use of energy-saving ductless heat pump technology. Popular in European and Asian markets, this technology signals a global shift towards more environmentally friendly choices within the industry.

The Quilt differs from conventional mini-split units in that it offers the possibility of individual design that adapts to different home aesthetics.

Introducing Quilt: Aesthetic, Efficient HVAC System

Available with a white oak veneer front panel or in pristine white, Quilt is designed to suit a wide range of visual preferences.

In addition to its visual appeal, other features of the quilt include ribbed details, low noise levels and a compact size, making it ideal for small spaces.

The device features a smart Quilt Dial thermostat that can be wall mounted or used freestanding. The Quilt Dial allows remote control via a dedicated app and offers scheduling, energy saving modes and energy monitoring features.

Finally, Quilt features an outdoor condensing unit with a sleek matte black finish that operates at a moderate noise level. Quilt earned the title of Energy Star Most Efficient System and its impressive energy efficiency ratings are evidenced by its SEER2:25 rating and heating efficiency factor of 2 out of 11.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (BCN) – San Francisco Supervisor Dean Preston introduced a resolution Tuesday calling on the state to turn the parking lot at a California Department of Motor Vehicles field office in the city into a 100 percent affordable housing site. “It’s a massive, state-owned property, with a mostly-unused parking lot,” Preston said.

San Carlos family finds owl in chimney

“If we’re serious about hitting our affordable housing goals, developing the DMV site for large-scale, permanently affordable housing is a no-brainer.” If passed, the resolution would urge state officials to request the DMV to turn their 98,061-square-foot parking lot at 1377 Fell St. into housing units.

Preston said the surface-level lot is one of the few potential sites for large-scale affordable housing in the heart of the city that would not require demolishing existing housing. Since it is owned by the state, it would be considerably cheaper to begin construction as the city would not have to buy the land.

The resolution was also introduced in light of the Board of Supervisors hearing an update on the draft 2022 Housing Element, quotas set by the state for local governments to boost affordable housing developments. In order to receive state funding, San Francisco must produce 82,069 new housing units by 2031, 57 percent of which must be accessible to low- and middle-income residents.

“We welcome the ambitious affordable housing targets set in the Housing Element,” said Preston. “But the state needs to do more than just demand streamlining market rate production to get there.

We need partnership from the state to maximize every opportunity for affordable housing, and the DMV site is the perfect starting point.” Preston’s office also said the land could be a key spot to the city’s goal of preserving geographic equity while building affordable housing, given its easy access to other parts of the city with plenty of public transportation lines nearby.

A private developer Build Inc. previously was awarded the DMV lot in 2008 to develop affordable housing, but the plans eventually fell through as they were “unable to make the project work,” according to Preston’s resolution.

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, Faction Technology, Inc., a driverless-technology company offering solutions that solve inefficiencies in micro-logistics and vehicles on demand, announced it is bringing driverless delivery to portions of the San Francisco Bay Area. Faction’s first partner is Cocola Bakery, which is using Faction to reliably deliver to its customers around the metro region. Deliveries will be made in lightweight, electric vehicles based on three wheel EV platforms from Arcimoto, Inc. (NASDAQ: FUV) and from ElectraMeccanica (NASDAQ: SOLO). Since July, Faction has made regular deliveries to the bakery’s customers and it’s now looking to add additional delivery partners in the coming months.

Equipped with Faction’s DriveLink® and TeleAssist® technologies, the company’s vehicle combines fleet autonomy with remote human teleoperation to carry out its deliveries. These technologies allow faction to provide businesses like Cocola Bakery with a delivery service that seamlessly delivers goods via a driverless fleet in an affordable, safe, and predictable way.

“Cocola Bakery and our customers have been ecstatic with the services Faction has provided us so far,” said Amir Aliabadi, CEO of Cocola Bakery. “We are now able to quickly, affordably, and reliably deliver our products to customers around the Bay Area, something we couldn’t easily accomplish before due to inconsistent gig-worker services.”

Through this initial launch, Faction continues to develop the technology powering its remote and driverless delivery solutions. New customer routes are first qualified with vehicles using safety drivers, in addition to being supervised by TeleAssist operators. System performance and road data are collected during every delivery to aid faction in consistently improving its technology and further expanding its services for Cocola Bakery and future customers.

“Our partnership with Cocola is just the beginning of what we have planned for Faction,” said Faction CEO, Ain McKendrick. “We’re achieving our cost and delivery targets while securing the data necessary to bring Faction and our technology to more partners in the coming year. The next phase is to make our services available to additional commercial customers in the Bay Area – restaurant chains, hardware stores, auto parts stores, and others – to maximize the use of our operating fleet while streamlining delivery in an affordable, reliable, and seamless way way.”

Faction is expanding its delivery services within the San Francisco Bay Area, and is currently opening up driverless delivery for other partners starting at under $2 per mile.
Junipero Gin Introduces the Inaugural San Francisco Martini Week

San Francisco Martini Week will not only shine a light on a great classic cocktail but it will also work to raise funds for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence®, a san francisco-born non-profit and cutting-edge order of queer and trans nuns devoted to community service and activism. Restaurants and bars across the city will invite consumers to try creative martini variations with Junipero Gin’s bold unfiltered expression while raising donations for every glass raised.

Without a doubt, martinis have been instrumental to cocktail culture worldwide, but the history of the martini is shrouded in mystery. While there are many theories about the birth of the martini, the reigning one points to the town of Martinez, CA, in the mid-1800s Gold Rush. A gold miner looking to celebrate his good fortune walked into a saloon and ordered a glass of champagne. Upon discovering that they were out of champagne, the bartender created “something special” for the miner. That “something” consisted of two parts gin, one part vermouth and a dash of orange bitters poured over crushed ice and garnished with an olive. Thus, “The Martinez Special” was born, and as its popularity spread it became known as the martini, a drink that is seen as a symbol of sophistication and boldness that has defined cocktail culture around the globe.

As the Original San Francisco Craft Gin with roots in the Bay Area, Junipero Gin honors its strong connection to the history of the martini. Junipero’s bold flavor enhances all the different martini variations, inviting you to take creative license when ordering the martini that you enjoy best. There is no one or right way to order a martini – whether you like it dry or dirty, shake or stirred, or with an olive and/or a twist – the art of ordering a martini is something that is uniquely individual, much like the eccentric community of san francisco. With San Francisco Martini Week, Junipero hopes to educate consumers on the martini and encourage everyone to discover which martini variation they like best.

“We cannot think of a better way to celebrate a cocktail with such rich history than by creating the first ever Martini Week with our san francisco born Junipero Gin.” said Brian RadicsCMO of Hotaling & Co. “We are proud to celebrate this classic cocktail while raising funds for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence®. This week brings together our value of Living Life Unfiltered with raising a martini to the Sisters, a great group that also boldly break with convention as they devote themselves to local activism and outreach to those on the fringe. We hope you will celebrate with us!”

During San Francisco Martini Week, Junipero Gin hopes to inspire consumers to get creative. With a bit of inspiration and a gin famous for challenging the norms, residents and visitors in san francisco are encouraged to order a tried-and-true martini or mix it up to find the martini variation that they like best. In the spirit of giving, Junipero Gin will donate $10,000 to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence®, whose dedication to human rights, diversity, and spiritual enlightenment has been essential to shaping the san francisco we know and love. Additionally, $2 from every signature Junipero martini sold during Martini Week at participating bars and restaurants will be donated to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence® to support their grant program that funds progressive, grassroots organizations and projects that serve marginalized communities and promote wellness, joy, tolerance, and diversity in the Bay Area; community development and funding to important LGTBQ+ projects and movements including the Pink Triangle Memorial, The People’s March, and Help Our Friends Outside (HOFO); and the Sisters’ Ministry of Joy, a program in which the Sisters interact with the community in a joyous and loving way, from feeding those who live outside to hosting an annual Easter In The Park Celebration to picking up trash in the streets.
About Junipero Gin

based in san francisco, Junipero Gin fearlessly led the birth of American craft gin in 1996. Junipero is Spanish for juniper berry, the main botanical in gin. Hell bent on elevating juniper & citrus flavors, the distilling team forged a new path by crafting each batch of Junipero in a small copper pot still, scouring the globe for the most expressive botanicals, and boldly bottling at an unfiltered 98.6 proof. Decades later Junipero is still made by hand in san francisco and celebrates those who break with convention to pursue an original path.
San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin and the Mayor of London Breed support efforts to fund crime victims and their families.

On Wednesday, The Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice announced a $ 100,000 grant program.

“These are persons on both sides of crime and punishment, by healing those who have been harmed, we can prevent the next crime,” he said.

The announcement comes as another program aimed at breaking the cycle of crime is under scrutiny.

A new report found that more than half of customers re-offend on the pre-trial distraction program that monitors people released from prison while they wait for their day in court.

San Francisco Regulatory Authority Catherine Stefani is calling for more frequent updates to the program and more thorough reports on why high-risk inmates are being released.

She began asking for dates after people in the program committed high-profile violent crimes.

Stefani recently voted against an extension of the million dollar contract.

“What I find so alarming and frustrating is that the pre-trial derivative program had this information and refused to give it to this office when I asked for it,” she said.

Boudin supports the program but says there is room for improvement.

“While this number is worrying and we would like to improve it, it is actually lower than the state prison and if the prison could do as well as the pre-trial distraction we would be moving in the right direction,” he said.

Skyline Energy Savers has been the premier solar and HVAC installer in El Dorado Hills, California since 1988. He has the best turnkey offer for Windows. Voted Best of California!

Skyline Solar and the professional staff at SkylineSavers.com have truly perfected what a top family owned California energy company should be: Reliable, affordable, and personal. “

– Scott B.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA, UNITED STATES, April 5, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – Skyline Energy Savers is proud to announce the completion of its new, state-of-the-art Solar Solutions line of products in 2021. Skyline offers: (a) Windows, (b) HVAC, and (c) Solar, all on-site, in Sacramento with speed and accuracy.

Skyline Energy Savers’ goal is to help homeowners improve the comfort and beauty of their homes while saving energy costs. Skyline Solar is committed to doing everything it can to lower our utility costs and help our country become more oil independent.

Skyline Energy Savers started in the days when a new replacement window with two windows was created. This was an exciting new design of a window that could fit into the existing window frame like a drawer fits into a dresser. Until then, windows could only be changed by ripping out the existing frame, destroying the vapor barrier and installing the new window on the original wooden post. It was a disaster! Double pane windows were relatively new and homeowners saw the benefit of replacing their old single pane windows. Skyline Solar was happy to be part of this new energy transition!

Over time, Skyline Energy Savers realized that homeowners had different energy needs. Great innovations have been made in heating and air conditioning systems. Someone with a system 15 years or older could benefit greatly from replacing their old unit with the new 13, 15, and then 16 SEER air conditioners, as well as 80% to 95% efficient ovens. It was gratifying to hear that Skyline customers save so much on their electricity bills while enjoying the comfort of their efficiently air-conditioned homes.

But Skyline Energy Savers didn’t stop there. Skyline wanted to help its customers get a new roof, improved insulation, tankless water heaters and fans for the whole house. All of these do-it-yourself jobs directly help Skyline customers and improve the environment.

Then came SOLAR … one of the most exciting DIY jobs ever! With the help of the sun, we can actually generate our own electricity. Every house where the sun shines on the roof should have photovoltaic solar modules to capture this free electricity. Solar has been quite expensive for the average homeowner up until recent years. Silicon farms are now common all over the world and the cost of solar panels is half what it used to be. State tax credits and rebates for utility companies have also helped make solar power more than affordable.

“Our world is changing with amazing home improvement inventions. Skyline Solar loves to be part of this ever changing cycle. Skyline likes to work in a company where people can save energy and enjoy more comfort and security at the same time. Skyline Solar is happy to make a small contribution to improving this beautiful world in which we live. In El Dorado Hills, we’re here to help. Call us anytime. “-Mort and Catrina Martin

There are currently well over two million solar power systems in the US, and those numbers are only growing. As more people become aware of solar energy and switch to this clean, renewable energy source, we can steadily move away from more harmful forms of energy. The U.S. is projected to gain over four million solar panels in just three years by 2023.

California is a leader in solar energy. Many states in the US have started using solar energy. As of 2017, California produces the highest amount of solar energy in the United States. They currently have enough solar energy to supply more than 3 million households with electricity. Given the increasing popularity of solar energy, many other countries are dealing with solar energy.

Solar energy does not create pollution. Unlike other forms of energy, solar energy does not cause environmental pollution. Not only does it not generate any dangerous gases into the atmosphere, but it also does not emit light or noise. This makes it one of the cleanest forms of energy.

Global photovoltaic solar capacity increased from around five gigawatts in 2005 to around 509.3 gigawatts in 2018. The value of the solar power market is expected to continue to grow rapidly. Solar technologies remain one of the most heavily funded renewable resources.

Although Skyline Energy Savers is physically located in El Dorado Hills, California, the company proudly offers its Folsom, Citrus Heights, Sacramento, Elkhain, Rancho Cordova, Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Auburn, and Placerville residents its professional solar, windowed and HVAC services to Diamond Springs, Jackson, Pine Grove, Wheatland, Davis, Woodland, Rancho Murieta, Coloma, Pleasant Grove, Yuba City, Grass Valley, Carson City, and San Francisco and Stockton.

Solar panels don’t need direct sunlight to generate electricity. Solar panels don’t need to get direct sunlight to collect energy. Instead, they can collect energy from different parts of the sun’s light spectrum. In this way, solar panels can continue to work even on cloudy or rainy days.

Once solar energy has been collected by solar panels, it can be stored indefinitely. Just one hour of solar radiation over the earth can store electricity for the entire planet for a whole year. This includes powering households, businesses, street lights and much more.

Solar energy is used by plants. Plants naturally get their energy from the sun, consuming sunlight and converting it into glucose. In a certain sense, plants are natural solar energy producers that get their necessary energy from the sun. Certain microorganisms also use this technology as an energy source.

The cost of a solar system in certain US states is currently at or less than $ 3 per watt. Less than a decade ago, the cost of an installed solar system was over $ 8 per watt, and many theorized about the day solar could cross the $ 4 / watt threshold. Now, in 2021, companies are seeing the $ 3.00 / watt mark go into effect – offers priced below $ 3.00 hit the EnergySage marketplace every day. The average cost per watt in 2020 for EnergySage is $ 2.81 per watt, which means a small to medium-sized system (6,000 watts) after the federal solar tax credit grant will cost $ 12,476.

Solar energy pays off. There are many benefits to solar power, some of which you can see here. One of them is that by using solar energy you will save a lot of money in the long run. While the installation process may seem expensive and intimidating, you’ll be grateful that you made the decision to make the switch soon after installing solar panels.

When you install solar panels, you don’t have to worry about paying your electricity bills every month. Instead, the sun gives you all the electricity you could need.

Solar energy is a form of nuclear energy. In order to keep burning, the sun is constantly in a state of nuclear fusion. Inside the sun’s core, hydrogen atoms fuse to form helium, causing a series of explosions and heat. Solar panels take this energy from the light the sun creates and transfer it to batteries and generators that you can use in your home.

There are two types of solar energy. Solar panels can actually generate electricity in two different ways. One of them is photovoltaics; This is the type of electricity that you can store and use as electricity. There is also solar thermal that you can use to heat your home. Both types of energy can be absorbed by solar panels. The only difference is how the energy is processed.

Some states also allow a tax break for homes that use solar energy. In some states, this can amount to up to 30% tax relief. You may also be able to sell excess energy that you can store. Not only will you save money on your utility bills, but you might even be able to make money selling your extra energy.

Solar is the cheapest and most abundant source of energy in the world. In December 2016, the cost of building and installing new solar power generation fell to USD 1.65 per watt, just outperforming the renewable headwind (USD 1.66 / watt) and competitors for fossil fuels.

A major turning point in terms of the economics of solar and fossil fuels came in 2016 when a commercial solar company in Dubai offered solar power for sale for $ 0.029 per kilowatt hour, setting a world record for solar and all energy sources.

Today there are 89 petawatts (PW) of potential solar energy production available on earth, making solar energy the most widely available energy source in the world.

State Senator Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, presented a bill on Thursday to decriminalize the use and possession of some psychedelics.

Senate Bill 519 would legalize psilocybin – the main ingredient in magic mushrooms – psilocyn, 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), ketamine, dimethyltryptamine (DMT), ibogaine, and mescaline with the exception of peyote.

It would also clear the criminal records of people convicted of having or using these psychedelics.

The bill would also create a commission that would make recommendations to California lawmakers on how to further regulate the substances.

The bill does not include peyote as it is classified as an endangered species.

Most of the drugs that would be decriminalized by the bill are those that the federal government believes are the most dangerous type of substances due to their high potential for abuse. Marijuana, which is legal in California, and heroin are also List I drugs.

The bill was co-authored by Congregation members Evan Low, D-San Jose, Sydney Kamlager, D-Los Angeles, and Bill Quirk, D-Hayward.
