First Take co-host Stephen A. Smith has been outspoken in his criticism of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The ESPN analyst has questioned some of the decisions Rodgers made on and off the field, but still respects the veteran quarterback for what he’s accomplished in his career.

Smith spoke about the quarterback’s future with the Green Bay Packers and what the team will look like if he actually leaves this offseason. After Saturday night’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, he said he’ll take some time to think about what’s next and want out if the team decides to “rebuild.”

Here’s what Smith had to say:

“Regarding the Green Bay Packers going on, hell no, you would be stupid to do that. As an organization, as you make this call to move on from Aaron Rodgers, where are you going with Jordan Love? 19 for 34, 190 yards and an interception against Kansas City in his only game as a starter that year? We saw what he did and how he went to bed in the second half of the season finale against Detroit. He wasn’t that impressive. We have serious questions about whether he’s ready or not. We don’t see any evidence of this. So where will you go if you lose someone like Aaron Rogers?” (First take)

When Aaron Rodgers leaves Green Bay, will Jordan Love be the Packers QB?

Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions

The Green Bay Packers drafted Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft, which led to the issues Aaron Rodgers had with the organization and their lack of communication with him.

When the starting quarterback missed a game this season due to COVID-19, Love was given an opportunity to start his first NFL game. It wasn’t an outing he or the Packers had hoped for.

Granted, he faced the Kansas City Chiefs but failed to get anything going on offense. In Week 18 against the Detroit Lions, Love played the second half and again didn’t show much improvement.

also readThe article continues below

With the Green Bay Packers over $40 million over the salary cap, there will be changes on offense as the team is unable to retain all of their biggest guns. With a new starting quarterback and potentially a different-looking offense, the Packers may officially be in rebuild mode this offseason.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Stephen Curry’s pre-game warm-up had a little extra flair with so many people watching again. He loved seeing all the familiar ushers as he drove to the arena three hours early. He thanked fans for their patience and perseverance during a pandemic before pointing out.

Curry scored 32 points, Draymond Green added 19 assists and 12 rebounds, and the Golden State Warriors greeted fans for the first time since the pandemic began by beating the Denver Nuggets 118-97 on Friday night.

“Just a little different from inside and outside the arena,” said Curry. “I know you have to take it slow and obviously protect everyone, but increase the number of people who can get into the building and slowly but surely return to a full, overcrowded home where this energy is unmatched. We on the ground, we live on it. You try to make it when it’s an empty arena, you do your best, but it makes a big difference with the fans. “

Nikola Jokic scored 19 points for Denver in a matchup of MVP candidates with Curry, who, 33.7 seconds back in the third game, received a rare technique when attempting a foul call. Michael Porter Jr. led the nuggets with 26 points, hitting seven 3-pointers.

Denver striker Will Barton dropped into the game 59 seconds with a strained right Achilles tendon and never returned. It hit the baseline awkwardly under the basket of nuggets.

“Our boys have regrouped,” said Nuggets coach Michael Malone. “Will has perished. He went down early and then we had to find other guys to jump in and play. But I think you all are fishing for the fact that we lost this game to Will’s injury. Don’t excuse us. Will Barton went down, he’s hurt, and we sympathize with him. But we all get paid on the first and the 15th, do your job. We didn’t do our job tonight – not me, the players didn’t do it and that’s unacceptable. “

Fans shouted “MVP! MVP! “For Curry, who scored 11 for 18 with four 3s and also got eight rebounds in his 12th 30-point performance in the last 13 games and the 29th of the season.

“I’m not surprised. I think it’s a no-brainer,” Mychal Mulder said.

Jordan Poole knocked down a corner 3-pointer to hit the buzzer that ended the third when Golden State received another big boost from its bench to win a third straight home game. Poole finished with 15 points and Kelly Oubre Jr. 23 in his new reserve role.

“It’s a new role for Kelly, but you can see how he accepted it, how he handled it,” said coach Steve Kerr.

The Warriors started with nine of their last 13 games at home – where they had not played with fans in the building for 409 days. The number of participants was 1,935, with the team hoping for around 2,000 people.

Fans were greeted with a special video board message – Welcome Home – a limited number of player family members and guests were the only ones in attendance.

The exhausted Warriors greeted Juan Toscano-Anderson from the concussion log after suffering a dangerous fall and cutting his head in Boston last week. He started at 6:08 a.m. in the first quarter to great cheers and contributed nine points and eight rebounds.

“Having fans is always fun, especially after playing in empty gyms,” said Toscano-Anderson. “I appreciate all the fans. Greetings to all important employees who made this possible. “

Golden State shot 53.6% and had 39 assists.

“You have to find a way to get stops and we just didn’t want that tonight,” said Malone, disgusted, whose Denver team shot 38.6%.

CURRY THE ENTERTAINER

Curry clearly loved getting fans back for entertainment by going through a dazzling warmup in which he kicked basketballs up towards the huge video scoreboard and had fun – waving to a cheering group above the tunnel after he finished his pre-game job would have.

The two-time MVP took a moment before the hint to thank the fans for their patience in this “unprecedented situation”.

“There was so much energy in the building tonight and a reminder of what we missed,” said Kerr. “Just I guess a few thousand, but it felt like a lot more. Just such a welcome sight. “

FIRST FAN

Anthony Calvo, 27, from San Ramon, was honored as the first fan to be honored at the Chase Center. Brandon Schneider, COO of New Warriors, greeted him at the door around 4:50 pm after Calvo arrived at 10:30 am to take his COVID test

A Redwood City employee who is helping procure school supplies for youth in need planned to connect with Ms. Kerissa after the game for her planned weekend getaway in Big Sur.

He received a # 1 First Fan Back Uniform and signed equipment from the team.

TIP-INS

Nuggets: Barton was injured on the Golden State home floor after Jamal Murray tore his cruciate ligament in his left knee and had to undergo surgery on April 12 against the Warriors here late on game day. … Denver had won its two previous ones on the road.

Warriors: F Damion Lee and G Kent Bazemore are both on the league’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols. … The Warriors didn’t train on Thursday or hold a shootaround on Friday and Kerr expects limited practice on the track to keep his team fresh. “The players need more rest than work at this point,” he said.

NEXT

Nuggets: Host Houston in a road-home back-to-back on Saturday to beat this season’s three matchups with the Rockets.

Warriors: Host Sacramento on Sunday after losing four out of five to the Kings.

Stephen Bechtel Jr., a San Francisco philanthropist and retired CEO of a global construction company that started out in San Francisco, died Monday morning in his 12th floor penthouse in Pacific Heights. He was 95.

Bechtel’s death was confirmed by a publicist at Bechtel, based in Reston, Virginia. The company with 55,000 employees and many subsidiaries was founded in San Francisco in 1898 by Bechtel’s grandfather Warren A. Bechtel. No cause of death was given.

Steve Jr., as he was known, became CEO at the age of 35 and ran the company from 1960 to 1990. During his tenure, what started as an engineering firm focusing on projects in the Bay Area grew into a global leader in the construction industry. , built large infrastructure projects on six continents while sales and employees grew exponentially.

He retired in 1990 at the age of 65 and was succeeded as CEO by his son Riley Bechtel.

“My grandfather leaves a remarkable legacy of achievement, integrity, excellence and commitment to customers and communities,” said Brendan P. Bechtel, CEO and Chairman of Bechtel, on Monday. “In every aspect of his life, he was driven by his strong values and vision of building a better world that still guide us today when we work with customers.”

Probably the largest Bay Area project that Bechtel implemented under his leadership was the construction of the Bay Area Rapid Transit System (BART). In 1974, Bechtel hired George Shultz and promoted him to president a year later before becoming Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan. The two have often been spotted in the social whirlwind of San Francisco with their wives Charlotte Shultz and Betty Bechtel. Shultz died in February at the age of 100.

In 2018, the company moved its global headquarters from San Francisco and Houston to the Washington, DC area. Bechtel’s focus in recent years has been on the SD Bechtel, Jr. Foundation, which began operations in December.

“He was a great man,” said retired Marine Major Mike Myatt, who worked for Bechtel from 1995 to 2001, overseeing the construction of a high-speed rail line in Korea.

Later, when Myatt ran the Marines Memorial Club, he could count on his fellow Navy fellows to fund a scholarship every year through his foundation for high school graduates interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education were.

“He really loved San Francisco and whatever we needed we could always call him. He was a generous man who wanted to do something useful, ”Myatt said.

One of those purposes was the Veterans Memorial, inaugurated in 2012 on the square between the War Memorial Veterans Building and the Opera House. The project cost 2.5 million US dollars, the Bechtel Foundation contributed half.

The foundation also made a large donation to begin construction of the Korean War Memorial, a $ 4 million memorial that opened in the Presidio of San Francisco in 2016.

“This Bechtel donation was the first major donation we received at the beginning of our work,” said Gerard Parker, executive director of the Korean War Memorial Foundation. “It had a snowball effect on our fundraising.”

Stephen Davison Bechtel was born in Oakland on May 10, 1925, and was a graduate of Piedmont High School, which served in the US Marine Corps. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in Indiana and an MBA from Stanford University.

In 1991, President George HW Bush awarded him the nation’s highest honor for technological achievement, the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.

Forbes estimates Bechtel’s net worth in 2021 at $ 2.9 billion, based on a 20% stake in the company.

“There was so much energy in the building tonight and a reminder of what we missed,” said Kerr. “Just I guess a few thousand, but it felt like a lot more. Just such a welcome sight. “
