Yankees Slug Previous A’s 8-2 – CBS San Francisco

OAKLAND (AP) – Giancarlo Stanton scored a fourth game in a row, Aaron Judge hit a triple shot in front of friends and family, and the New York Yankees extended their best winning streak in almost 60 years to 13 by hitting the Oakland Athletics 8- 2 on Friday evening.

Stanton’s 25th Homer was pushed into the second deck in the center-left an estimated 472 feet above a suite level, one of the longer journeys at the Colosseum in recent times. There were six homers to Stanton in his last nine games, and Luke Voit later linked an out in the fourth.

Gerrit Cole (13-6) hit nine with two walks over six scoreless innings, allowing six hits to win his third straight start. He worked on an extra day of rest and hit 200 strikeouts for the fourth time in his career.

Judge’s 28th homer chased A’s starter Sean Manaea, who became frustrated before he even threw his first throw when the umpires checked his glove and he had to replace it. The pitcher tossed the glove into the dugout when his co-starter Cole Irvin hurried to get a replacement glove from the clubhouse.

Kyle Higashioka added a double homer in the ninth round for New York (76-52), the club’s longest winning streak in another streak of 13 straight wins from September 1-12, 1961. The Yankees are a season best 24 games over .500.

Matt Olson played a two-run single for Oakland after Cole left Joely Rodríguez.

Manaea (8-9) went 0-3 in five starts in August – none went beyond five innings.

The fading A lost their sixth game in a row and manager Bob Melvin said Friday they held a team meeting after losing to Seattle on Tuesday afternoon.

The game drew 22,463 on a night that played a Star Wars-themed drone show after the game.

CHEER SQUAD

Judge, who grew up in the tiny town of Linden in the Central Valley, expected around 30-40 fans in the seats behind the Yankees’ dugout.

Before the game, the bat chatted with left-handed Dallas Braden, who, like Judge, is proud of his similar Stockton roots.

“He’s a 209,” Braden said of the 6-foot-7 star, referring to her primary. “It stands as tall as the corn stalks in linden trees.”

Judge added an RBI single in the ninth and had three hits and four RBIs.

UP

With his next win, New York’s Aaron Boone Buck Showalter (313) will be level with ninth place on the Yankees’ all-time manager wins list.
