Womble Combines With California Agency, Opens San Francisco Workplace

Womble Bond Dickinson is combining with Cooper, White & Cooper, enabling the UK-headquartered firm to open a new office in San Francisco, its fourth in California.

The tie-up, effective Sept. 1, creates an office of more than two dozen employees, including 17 lawyers who will move from Cooper, White & Cooper, Womble said in a Wednesday statement.

Womble already has California offices in Irvine, Los Angeles and Silicon Valley and opened offices in New York and Nashville earlier this year. Overall, the firm has more than 1,000 lawyers in 29 UK and US offices.

“California is home to some of the world’s key business and technology hubs, with San Francisco chief among them,” Betty Temple, chief executive officer of Womble Bond Dickinson in the US, said in a statement. “The state—indeed the entire West Coast—is strategically important to Womble.”

Womble partners Chris Mammen, Steve Levitan and Carrie Richey, all of whom focus on IP litigation matters, will be joining the San Francisco office. Mammen will be managing partner there.

Cooper, White & Cooper, founded in 1896, represents clients in litigation and transactions across a range of sectors, from energy and financial services to intellectual property and technology. Some firm members will continue to operate from its Walnut Creek office.

Womble Bond Dickinson was formed in 2017 as a result of a merger between UK-based Bond Dickinson and US-based Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice.
